Hello,
It’s Melanie. I hope this reaches you well. I don’t want to dwell on the elephant in the world, but I would like to briefly touch on it. (After washing my hands, of course.) I prefer talking about distressed jeans rather than the world being in a state of distress. However, it feels very inappropriate to discuss fashion related matters without acknowledging the millions of people who are currently affected by this terrible virus. It would be like wearing flip flops to the met gala. And when I say flip flops, I don’t mean these Sophia Webster beauties. Unfortunately, a close friend of mine has recently tested positive for Coronavirus. In one of his recent FaceTime calls, he stated, “When they stuck the swab up my nose, it went through my body and out my a$$!” He also expressed shock at “feeling it touch his brain.” And to that I replied, “Wait, you have a brain?” My friend, who likes to go by Blue, is recovering well after a few days of feeling under the weather. He is an extrovert so he has been keeping this introvert (me) company with his frequent FaceTime calls. You’ll see us discussing less depressing matters such as boys, Olive Garden beignets, and the new hunger games prequel in these virtual face-to-face conversations. He somehow always gets me to ugly laugh despite these trying times and I’m grateful to have a friend in him. And since no one asked, here is a short poem dedicated to my lovely friend.
Oh Blue, Corona got you
I was so worried
What would I do without you?
Inspired by Blue’s ability to bring joy in the hardest of times, I have decided to wear all blue. I know the monochrome trend has seen countless days and nights, but sometimes you just need to “embrace the blue, channel that energy into growth, and move on.” Did I really just type that? Did a Pinterest post take over my brain’s ability to finish the latter part of that sentence? I think I’ve been spending too much time on Pinterest. But how else would I have found that electrifying picture of Celine Dion in turquoise Max Mara? Also, classic blue is the Pantone color of the year. Oh, the irony is too much. I must go. 2020 must go as well. Come with me, 2020.
Melanie
